Location: Kechi/Sedgwick County
Position Description:
Ensure all information on Evidence Custody Receipts, Evidence Logs, and Evidence Storage records are complete and accurate. Maintain current evidence storage log. Maintain safe and secure storage of all items and determine if any items are health risk or hazard. Ensure the Troop Evidence Packaging supplies are stocked adequately. Ensure that stored items are properly sealed and packaged. Ensure evidence that will be transferred to other agencies for testing is properly sealed and packaged per the laboratory requirements.
Monitor all stored evidence to determine if it can be destroyed, transferred, or returned to the owner. Prior to evidence being destroyed, transferred, or returned to the owner; check the item with NCIC and in cases of guns check the ATF E-Trace Firearm tracing system.
Initiates and completes detailed reports, legal documents and other required paperwork. Prepares a variety of reports including those on activities, operations, arrests made, and unusual incidents observed. Prepares investigative reports and case information. Testifies in courts and judicial hearings, prepares and presents case evidence and responds to mandatory court calls during irregular hours.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Licensing & Certification: Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledgeable of the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA) laws and confidentiality laws and policies applicable to agency records. Knowledge of KBI reporting requirements and processing KIBRS arrest/offense reports.
Proficiency with windows-based software, particularly Excel and Microsoft word.
Requirements:
Minimum Requirements: For this civilian position, experience as a former KHP Trooper in good standing is preferred, however prior Law enforcement officer certification through a Kansas LEA, or commensurate experience with LEA as a civilian will be considered.
Post offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
Must successfully complete and maintain certification(s) as detailed in Agency policy.
IAPE (International Association of Property and Evidence) training must be obtained within 12 months of assignment.
Must submit to and pass a thorough background check including fingerprints. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, sit for extended periods of time, bend, squat, stoop, reach, push, pull, grasp, speak clearly, listen and comprehend verbal and written instructions, key for typing, and lift up to 40 lbs and move materials and other objects.
