On average, troopers in the area answer more than 64,000 calls for service per year, and work more than 2,200 crashes.

Responsibilities

In addition to investigating fatality, injury, and property damage crashes on area highways; troopers:

  • Assist stranded motorists
  • Conduct criminal investigations, commercial vehicle inspections, and traffic enforcements
  • Respond to planned and unplanned traffic events

With the help of area partners, such as KDOT, this troop administers the KC Scout Traffic Management Center and its employees utilized as operators.

Challenges

One of Troop A’s biggest challenges is controlling traffic at the Kansas Speedway in Wyandotte County. During major races, more than 100,000 additional vehicles place heavy demands on an already bustling highway system.
