KPERS 457 retirement
Location: Topeka/Shawnee County
Position Description:
Plans, develops, and participates in the agency’s employee orientation program; Explains all benefits associated with employment, answers related questions, and has employees complete and sign all necessary paperwork; Routes the forms to the appropriate personnel for entry into SHaRP; Makes entries into systems with SHaRP, Kansas Public Employee Retirement System (KPERS) Employer Web Portal (EWP), and Membership Administrative Portal (MAP) for the State Employee Health Plan (SEHP) as needed.
Serves as the agency’s designated agent and primary contact person for all Kansas Public Employee Retirement System (KPERS) and Kansas Police & Fire (KP&F) retirement plan issues such as, membership, retirement estimates, working after retirement, DROP, pay period reporting, certifications, etc.; Answers questions, provides information, enters necessary data into SHaRP and EWP, and provides required forms and documentation to KPERS/KP&F and employees.
Manages, and is the agency contact, for all Worker’s Compensation claims and Disability claims; Works closely with the State Self Insurance Fund (SSIF) by routing all doctor’s notes and forms to the adjusters to keep them appraised on the employee’s current status. Manages job injury leave requests and Administrative Leaves by monitoring and tracking hours used.
Member of State KPERS Advisory Group; Serves as Agency contact for Optional Group Life Insurance and KPERS 457 Deferred Compensation plan. Tracks pertinent information such as earnings limitations for working after retirement; and updates EWP every pay period.
Maintains all medical files for the agency.
Manages all Group Health Insurance (GHI) activities for the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP); Answers questions, explains the various benefit coverage options available; Utilizes the HR MAP system to enter new employee information and monitor benefit elections and changes; Communicates with the SEHP to resolve specific issues and/or adjustments on behalf of employees and the agency; Plans, coordinates, and conducts annual GHI open enrollment meetings statewide, and provides online presentations; Notifies employees who are on leave without pay of the dollar amount they need to submit in order to maintain their health insurance coverage.
Assists employees who are retiring or resigning regarding their benefits by working closely with the employee and KPERS.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Licensing & Certification: Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications: Working knowledge of: State of Kansas Benefits programs, the principles and practices of human resource management, Federal laws, State statutes and Kansas Administrative Regulations applicable to a comprehensive human resource program, and Microsoft office products, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Minimum Requirements:
One year of experience in planning, directing, organizing, managing or administering personnel or human resources functions.
Post offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
- Must be able to successfully pass a thorough background investigation including fingerprints.
- Ability to bend, stoop, sit for long periods of time, twist and reach, type, read, and conduct telephone conversations.
- Ability to lift light weight, up to 30 lbs., office materials such as personnel files, folders, boxes, etc.
