KHP 2025-E-01: Updated Information on Fatality Collision in Seward County

Updated 12.24.2025:  The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified and located the commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and driver involved in this crash. The KHP received several tips which helped Troopers locate the CMV involved. Thank you all for your assistance in this investigation.

Published 12.23.25:  The Kansas Highway Patrol is seeking assistance from the public to identify a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) involved in a fatality crash that occurred between midnight and 7:00 am, on December 22, 2025. The collision occurred on U.S. Highway 54 near Liberal in Seward County.

A preliminary investigation indicates the CMV was parked on the eastbound shoulder of U.S. Highway 54 near mile marker 20 in Seward County when it was struck from behind by an eastbound 2017 Chevrolet Silverado. The CMV left the scene following the crash. The CMV is believed to be light-colored, possibly sliver or gray, and was transporting an oversized load that included a large steel cylinder.
