VIN Inspection - Titles

I purchased a BRAND NEW car from a dealership. Does it need a VIN Inspection?

No. If the vehicle you purchased has NEVER BEEN TITLED, it does not need a VIN inspection.  The signed manufacturer’s statement/certificate of origin (MSO/MCO) you receive from the dealership at the time of purchase will suffice.  Be sure to take that with you when you go to the County Treasure to get your license plates.

I bought a vehicle and the title was signed over to the person I bought it from and he signed it over to me. Can I get it inspected?

If the person you purchased the vehicle from did not title the vehicle in his/her name, you have a "jumped title".  This will need to be corrected before the MVE/VIN process can be completed.  You will need to: Return to the person who sold you the vehicle Contact the Kansas Department of Revenue for guidance
