Physical Agility Testing
The Kansas Highway Patrol Fitness Test (KHPFT) is similar to the U.S. Army’s Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) model.
Testing and scoring protocols, including variations from ACFT
EVENT 1: Maximum Dead Lift (MDL) Follows ACFT protocol
- 3-repetition max dead lift.
- Event is performed utilizing a 60lb hex bar.
- Two attempts allowed. Heaviest weight lifted correctly is scored.
- Maximum score is 100 points, lifting 340lbs three times.
EVENT 2: Standing Power Throw (SPT) Follows ACFT protocol
- Overhead medicine ball throw for distance.
- Event is performed utilizing a 10lb medicine ball.
- Three total throws – one for practice and two for record. Furthest recorded distance is scored.
- Maximum score is 100 points, throwing 13 meters (42.7 feet).
EVENT 3: Hand-release push-up – arm extension (HRP) Follows ACFT protocol
- Complete as many hand-release push-ups with arm extensions as possible in two minutes.
- Event is performed on the blue defense tactics mats.
- Only correctly performed repetitions are counted/scored.
- Maximum score is 100 points, performing 60 repetitions in two minutes or less.
EVENT 4: Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC)
- Conduct 5 x 50-meter (250m total) shuttle runs for time. Sprint, drag, lateral, carry, sprint.
- Event is performed utilizing the weighted sleds in gym and two (2) 40lb. kettlebells.
- Sleds are pulled loaded with weights. Plus weight of sled for a total of 160lbs.
- <ACTF protocol calls for 90lb. sleds to be used on grass or artificial turf. We are modifying for indoor gym use (less friction so heavier weight of sled).
- Maximum score is 100 points, completing the event in 1 minute 30 seconds or less.
- Remaining rules follow ACFT protocol.
EVENT 5: Plank
- Complete the plank as long as possible.
- Event is performed on the blue defense tactics mats.
- Maximum score is 100 points @ 3 minutes 35 seconds.
- KHP scoring modification:
- Completing the plank in 2:00 minutes will score 70 points
EVENT 6: 1.5-mile run (ACFT protocol requires a 2-mile run.)
- KHP modification will continue to utilize a 1.5-mile run.
- 1.5-mile run will be performed in the cemetery to the south of the KHPTA campus, on a predetermined course, weather permitting.
- Scoring for the event is scaled based on the ACFT scoring. Scores have been mathematically adjusted to reflect the modified distance. Maximum score is 100 points, performing the 1.5-mile run in 10 minutes 08 seconds or less.
