Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (A.R.I.D.E) is a sixteen-hour training course designed for Officer’s that are highly proficient and active in alcohol impaired driving enforcement.

This is advanced training for officers that have completed Standardized Field Sobriety Testing training to give them additional skills to recognize signs and symptoms of impairment from drugs other than alcohol.  The officer will be able to articulate reasonable suspicion of impairment by drugs through observation and various testing to support a probable cause arrest for DUI-Drugs and to sustain a request for a toxicology specimen for drug testing and identification.

Officers applying to attend the ARIDE course must be currently credentialed in SFST.  Officers attending the ARIDE training will be required to first pass a proficiency test demonstrating their skills in conducting the three SFST tests, which are the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test, Walk and Turn Test and the One Leg Stand Test.  Officers which are not able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the administration of the SFST Test Battery will not be permitted to complete the ARIDE course.

ARIDE is required precursor training for those officers considering applying to become Drug Recognition Experts.  In the foreseeable future, ARIDE will most likely be a prerequisite to DRE Training
