Collegiate Law Enforcement Academy

Academy Dates

May 18-22, 2026

The Collegiate Law Enforcement Academy offers college students an exciting and unique view into what it takes to become a Kansas State Trooper. This gives the student a behind the scenes look at a Trooper Trainee lifestyle and other careers within the Kansas Highway Patrol.

During the academy, students, participate in a variety of scenario-based training sessions, including:

  • Traffic stops
  • Firearms use and care,
  • Driving and defense tactics
  • Physical training
  • Other team building exercises

Classroom training from certified instructors is a key component of this Academy.

REQUIREMENTS:

The student must complete an application packet, which includes:

  • An 80-100-word essay describing why you want to attend the Collegiate Law Academy
  • An endorsement from the Dean at their school
  • Sponsorship from a college advisor or department head (sponsor may attend at no additional cost)
  • A medical authorization/physical completed by your primary physician

Due to the rigorous schedule of the week-long session, special medication or physical limitations will need to be considered for approval. No student will be excused prior to the close of the session except in cases of an emergency (i.e., illness or death in family).

COST:

$150 per student
Covers the cost of the training, and room and board. There is no charge for a sponsor to attend.
