Application and Qualification Timeline
All communications and instructions concerning where you are in the selection process will occur through the email address you provide on your application.

Physical Agility Examination will be administered at the Kansas Highway Patrol Training Academy in Salina. Testing begins at 8:00AM.

Recruit Trooper classes at the Kansas Highway Patrol Training Academy occur twice a year.
- January and July
- Recruits undergo 21 weeks of intensive training

| Step 1 | Submit your application through the State of Kansas Employment Center Once we have received your application, we will send three documents via email which must be completed and returned to us within seven (7) days. | Return Deadline: Seven (7) days |
| Step 2 | Take and pass the Stanard online test | Deadline: Seven (7) days Results take 3-5 days |
| Step 3 | Preliminary Interview Applicants who pass the test by the deadline move onto a preliminary interview. (Done remotely via Teams.) | You will be contacted to schedule a date and time. |
| Step 4 | Polygraph Examination (Takes place in Topeka or Salina) | A list of available dates, times and location will be sent via email. |
| Step 5 | Command staff will review polygraph results. Successful applicants receive Conditional Offer of Employment. | Takes: 1 week |
| Step 6 | Background Investigation (web based. via Guardian Alliance Technologies) | Return Deadline: 5 days |
| Step 6a | Command staff review of Background | Results take approximately: 4 weeks |
| Step 7 | Command Staff Interview Look your very best as you meet with command staff for a formal interview at General Headquarters in Topeka | You will be contacted with your interview time. |
