Position Summary: Develops, oversees, maintains, and updates the KHPConnect intranet platform. The employee is responsible for the posting and sharing of information relating to Agency operations, training and events, and news relevant to a state-wide information system. Assists the Media Department to ensure the agency’s public website content remains up to date such as posting media releases, job openings, and additional content as needed. Knowledge of HTML coding language is preferred.

Researches, writes, and edits special projects for agency senior staff and members of other state agencies, as assigned. Projects to include grant proposals, ghostwriting columns and speeches, and other research projects covering controversial topics to inform and/or persuade various audiences. Decodes complex or technical information for readers on laws and judicial decisions, policies, and safety information. This involves internet and library research, interviews, and statistical analysis writing.

Researches, writes, and edits articles on traffic safety, germane current events, and law enforcement topics as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or senior staff member. This includes media releases, website features, and agency pamphlets as assigned.

Assists KHP Media Department with editing articles submitted for the quarterly bulletin, annual report, and other publications. Assists direct supervisor with making the decision on what is accepted or rejected for publication.

Maintains proficiency in the use of social media and other media platforms to assist the statewide public information officer. Travel and overnight stays will occasionally be required as needed for events, conferences and responding to disaster situations.

Collaborates with the Media department to brainstorm and develop new concepts for marketing projects, social media graphics and reels, and photographs. Works closely with the Graphic Designer Specialist to assist with planning and conceptualizing creative layouts, logos, and memes. Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.

Assists the Senior Administrative Assistant with providing coverage to the General Headquarters’ (GHQ) front desk, during normal operational hours. Answers, redirects and/or forwards phone calls, relays messages, and provides general information to the public. Assists walk up customers and screens individuals for entry into controlled access areas of the building. Immediately reports suspicious activities and/or behavior to immediate supervisor or other uniformed staff member of the Patrol. Sorts mail and packages from reliable and known delivery/mail services and notifies the appropriate person of the delivery when necessary. Plans, organizes, and schedules events for Public and Governmental Affairs when assigned. This involves working with agency leaders and personnel, state officials, and outside organizations on matters and events relating to the Patrol.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Licensing & Certification: Valid Kansas Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications: Formal training and/or experience with computer programs and applications associated with social media and/or publishing.
Proficiency with Windows based systems, SMaRT, PowerDMS, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word programs. Proficiency with publications programs. Proficient in social media applications and platforms.

Necessary Special Requirements: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively verbally in person and on the telephone and in writing with fellow employees and the general public. Demonstrated excellent written communication using correct grammar, sentence structure, and spelling. Ability to listen, comprehend and respond to fellow employees and the general public via telephone or in person. Ability to multi-task. Must possess computer skills with knowledge of publishing programs and Windows and Excel programs. Knowledgeable of agency business, policies, procedures and the ability to think conceptually. Demonstrate excellent written & oral professional communication using correct grammar, sentence structure and spelling. Proficient in social and other media, Word, Excel Adobe and Power DMS. Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task diverse and sensitive information which is inherent in the position.

Miscellaneous Information

Ability to sit, walk, stand, stretch, twist, reach out with body, arms and legs; listen, comprehend, respond, speak clearly and concisely in person and on the telephone; repeatedly bend, stoop, lift lightweight materials up to 40 lbs, sit for long periods of time, move in confined areas, and perform repetitive motions with one or more extremity. Hourly Pay Range: $21.65– $ 23.31 plus State benefits
