This position is with the Professional Standards Unit

Position Summary: Accurately maintains <abbr=”professional standards unit”>PSU confidential files, inputs data, logs and maintains current files of cases in <abbr=title= i a pro software”>IAPro to ensure consistent and standardized records. Accurately updates agency personnel information in <abbr=title= i a pro software”>IAPro as necessary.

Converts unit archived internal affairs records into <abbr=title= i a pro software”>IAPro.

Assists Unit staff in researching and compiling data for use in trend analysis and “early warning” system monitoring by unit personnel. Maintains NCIC certification and utilizes skills in KCJIS computer base inquiry and research.

Compiles, proofs, and edits completed internal affairs investigative reports, supporting documents and other case related material. Enters necessary case file information into IAPro and completes case disposition. Performs modifications to <abbr=title= i a pro software”>IAPro as necessary to satisfy policy updates and data collection reporting requirements.

Transcribes recorded audio interviews of Professional Standards Unit investigations by dictation equipment and computer software usage. Transcribes recordings for other agency personnel as assigned.

Prepares and compiles statistics and reports for presentation to the Superintendent, Command Staff and Troop Commanders, as well as for state, local, and federal agencies from computerized and archived files as needed. Completes monthly LEOKA report and Racial or Other Bias-Based Policing Annual Report.

Provides professional reception duties while answering phone calls to the Unit, provides appropriate information and directs incoming calls to appropriate personnel. Issues conduct complaint investigation case numbers as necessary. Notifies Unit investigators of calls, office visits and/or emails which require attention as necessary.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Licensing & Certification: Valid Kansas Driver’s License.
Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience in general office, clerical and administrative support work.

Necessary Special Requirements: Must have excellent organizational skill and the ability to multi-task diverse and sensitive information which is inherent in the position. Ability to work with people of all skill sets and work in a team environment; establish and maintain effective work relationships. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications: Certification and training in use of KCJIS, NCIC, NLETS, and other criminal justice data base systems.

Miscellaneous Information

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must submit to and pass a thorough background investigation, including fingerprints. Ability to sit for long periods of time, perform repetitive motions with one or more extremity, reach, and move in confined areas.
